Carmen Huertas, 54, walks through the skeleton of her family's house in the U.S. Virgin Islands, which was damaged in Hurricane Maria and has only been partially repaired. Although Huertas is blind, she still remembers the function of each destroyed room. She and her elderly parents live in the three rooms in the back of the house that have been rebuilt.

Almost two years after Hurricanes Maria and Irma, Norma and Guillermo Huertas still live in their partially-ruined house on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Almost two years after Hurricanes Maria and Irma, Norma and Guillermo Huertas still live in their partially-ruined house on the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Guillermo, 90, struggles with dementia and the couple is cared for by their daughter, Carmen, who is blind. One reason they have stayed in the house, which has only three usable rooms, is because Guillermo is known by neighbors, who look out for him if he wanders away from the house.
